Helping fleet managers stay organized.
Create a new application for companies who hire drivers, helping them keep track of their driver's license expirations, medical certifications and any suspensions or convictions.
This project was requested by an employer of drivers, and was relayed to us by the Transportation Department. Access Idaho already knew how to work with this data, as AI has a machine-to-machine application that does a similar function for insurance companies, and other buyers of large data. But this project is for the medium and small shops. The end user is a human, not a machine.
We started by building a minimum viable product - a visitor could add one driver's license number at a time to their roster and log back in to see if there were any alerts related to the licenses they were monitoring. I tested this product with users, asking them to talk aloud. We smoothed out the problems I saw in testing, added the ability to group drivers through tagging, and launched the application.
I surveyed users after launch to gauge their satisfaction with the current product, and to solicit feedback about ideas for expanding the service.
I then interviewed three of the larger employers of commercial drivers in Idaho, to find out the best way to scale this application. I asked them how they managed their drivers data, what formats would fit best into their processes, about their daily, weekly and yearly tasks, as well as federal guidelines they must meet.
The team worked together to expand the service, enabling companies to add up to 1,000 drivers to monitor at a time. The larger companies planned to delete their roster and add all current employees once a year, then pull records for each of them to meet federal guidelines.
I also did a few more interviews with representatives from industries that we hadn't gathered opinions from yet, to guide marketing of the product to these new fields.
